When you’re trying to read someone by their body language, always look for groups of signals rather that isolated actions. This will allow you take make a more accurate judgement of their emotional state. Look for clusters of behaviour i.e. four signals with the same meaning.

Body Language Dating Advice

Hands

  • When expressing yourself always try and have you palms showing. It will make the person you’re with think you’re being honest and open. People who hide there palms are perceived to be hiding the truth.
  • Always avoid pointing as this can be taken as an aggressive action.
  • Don’t clench your hands as this gives off a negative impression.
  • Don’t point with your thumbs
  • Having your hands supporting your head is a sign that you’re bored so it should be avoided.
  • If someone is playing with their fingers then they might be indicating that they want you to hold their hand
  • When people are lying they sometimes cover their mouths or ears. This can be very brief and hard to spot.

Smile

  • No one wants to socialise with someone who doesn’t smile. So always try and smile to induce a positive feeling in others
  • People can easily spot a fake smile as there is little or no eye movement. Fake smiles are usually left sided
  • Smiling releases endorphins so smiling will make you happier and appear more friendly and approachable
  • Smiling will relax you if you’re felling nervous and allow you to communicate better.
  • When you’re talking to someone and they’re looking at your mouth more than you’re eyes it can mean that they want to kiss you.

Arms

  • If your date crosses their arms a lot it means they’re felling uncomfortable about something. You need to try and make them fell more comfortable and loosen up. A date won’t really get going until this has happened. You’ll notice an immediate change if you can get them to unfold their arms. Remember not to cross your arms yourself!
  • Where you’re date puts their drink can give you a big clue about how they’re feeling. If they cross their arms to get to their drink then you know they’re not opening up to you. Break down these barriers and make yourself approachable
  • Try and gently touch the arm of your date when you first meet or say good bye. This extra attention will show then you’re attracted to them. If this happens to you then take note

Eyes

  • Some people say that the eyes are the window to the soul. It’s actually the pupils that you should concentrate on. Dilated pupils are a sign of attraction
  • Try to maintain 60-70% eye contact when speaking to someone you’re interested in
  • If someone stares at you for slightly longer than normal then it usually means they’re interested. Note how long they look at you and then compare to other people.
  • Eyebrow flashing is a clear sign of attraction. If you want to let someone know you’re interested in them – raise your eyebrows
  • An increase in blinking rate is also a sign of attraction

Shoulders

  • If someone points their shoulders towards you, it’s a good sign that they’re interested in you. If they’re pointing away from you then you need to get them to concentrate on you.
  • If they have their shoulders slouched it can also mean they are not interested in you.

Legs

  • If standing and talking to someone, make sure your legs make you lean slightly forward to show you’re paying attention.
  • If someone’s knees are pointing towards you then it’s usually a good sign.

Feet

  • Like shoulders, the direction that someone’s feet are pointing is a true reflection of how they feel about you.
  • If the person you’re with starts playing with their shoes then this can mean that they are attracted to you.

Head

  • Keep your head upright to show that you are confident in yourself but don’t appear overbearing
  • Try not to make sudden movements with your head when responding to a question. Appear calm and in control.
  • If the person you’re speaking to starts touching their hair, this act of preening is a sure sign that they are attracted to you.
